My major relates to this class because my major is computer science. Cybersecurity is considered a subfield of computer science because people who go into the cybersecurity field need to have a deep understanding of many areas that are included in computer science. For example, analyzing and preventing data breaches and attacks, monitoring network systems, and creating solutions for the breaches and attacks. Four other majors that relate to cybersecurity are information technology, computer engineering, cybersecurity engineering, and information assurance. Information technology (IT security) studies the protection of information systems and data from unauthorized access. Computer engineering is a big part of cybersecurity it combines electrical engineering and computer science to create new hardware and software. Cybersecurity engineering creates high-tech solutions to defend against hacking, malware and ransomware, insider threats and all types of cybercrime. Information assurance is insuring the use and transmission of data in networking systems by managing risks. Also, protection of the authenticity, integrity, confidentiality, and availability of user data.
