There are many connections between cybercrime and the criminal justice. All forms of cybercrime have some sort of punishment with most of the punishments occurring at the federal level. These cybercrimes could be anything from data theft to fraud all the way up to cyber terrorism. All of these punishments have been formed by the criminal justice system to deter possible cyber criminals from lashing out on the public, government, or private businesses, people, and organizations. There are two ways that criminal justice and cybercrime interact. One way these two disciplines interact with one another is through the study of cyber-criminology. Criminology is the study of crime and criminal behavior and has its own various forms. However, there is one for the niche of cyber-criminology where criminologists use computers and other devices to study cybercrime and how cyber criminals commit such crimes. There are more parts that cyber criminologists do take, things such as victimology, the study of the victims in regards to how they get targeted and attacked. Another key role is sociology. In other words how do these cyber criminals play into society and what makes them become cyber criminals. One last key-role is Internet Science, how these cybercriminals act and play their role on the internet to perform these crimes. All of these disciplines come together so cyber-criminologists can continue studying their profession. The other way that the criminal justice system and cyber crime interact is through digital forensics and through federal law enforcement like the CIA or FBI. These two subjects of criminal justice and cybercrime all overlap.
