Many majors here at Old Dominion relate to cybersecurity. The four I would like to talk about are Computer Science, Cytotechnology , Information Systems & Technology, Cybercrime. Each of these relate to cybersecurity in their own way, to start off computer science . As a student majoring in computer science they will learn all of the knowledge and skills of the computer so with that foundation you could easily go work in the cybersecurity field . Cybersecurity basics is the computer foundation along with a few extra skills to help you specialize in certain areas. Secondly is Cytotechnology even though this is a healthcare major it relates because of the foundation of the program along with the first major cytotechnology, it uses the basic foundation / knowledge of a computer to achieve their job . If things didn’t work out with them immediately with a cytotechnology major I feel as if they have skills and knowledge to land a job in the cybersecurity field. The healthcare field may sometimes be a little rocky with landing a job however with the world steadily turning into a strictly technology world ,cytotechnology is a great route to go.Thirdly is Information Systems and Technology while majoring in this you are learning very intense technical skills while also learning the business aspect. In my very own opinion I feel as information systems and technology majors are over certified for cybersecurity in a way however when it comes to the business aspects of cybersecurity they would be an awesome candidate for that position. According to the Old Dominion University website where I obtained the research it states that the major is consistently growing and is a very competitive and increasingly technol business world within the twenty first century. Lastly I would like to talk about cybercrime , if not cybersecurity this was my next top choice for my major . Cybercrime is cybersecurity mixed with criminal justice . As a cybercrime major it helps students develop law enforcement skills along with technology skills . Although psychology wasn’t mentioned, psychology is always used in the cybersecurity field . Professionals need psychology to understand the human behavior of cyber attacks .
