My First Semester
I have grown a lot since the beginning of the semester. I am now understanding how I should go about studying. Also how I should approach assignments. I’ve grown by understanding how much college is going to demand of me and what is necessary for my success. My expectations for this year was to do my best and give everything I’m involved in my best effort. In ways this semester met the expectations but in other ways it didn’t. Mostly because I didn’t always give my full attention to each assignment equally or sometimes waited to turn stuff in. In my opinion I try not to wish for many things out of life. Something I feel like I should have worked harder for 14 weeks ago is to stay focused on the end goal but also enjoy the journey and learn properly from past mistakes and experiences.
In the beginning I’d say I always caught myself waiting until the last minute to start studying and understanding the material. Now I give myself the entire week of the exam so I do not feel rushed and can actually complete everything to where I understand the material. My study habits have changed so that now I have more than enough time to understand what the exam will be about. I also spend more time in the library and if I do not understand I go tutoring so that I can grasp the material more. The resources are something I should have taken more advantage of in the beginning of the semester because they have honestly helped so much. I have learned that the writing center can be a big help. As well as my advisor. Next semester I want the best for myself so I will definitely be in every tutoring session and office hour. The study habits I will go into next semester using is to MAKE TIME FOR IT. That’s the biggest thing I have learned. Also spending more time learning the material at least 5 days in advance. Take the time to get to know my professors and go to their office hours if I need help.
I feel like these classes are tied together in a way that helps me understand the path I am intending to take. I took history 104 with Dr. Chiles and fairly enjoyed his lecture. He taught history but also taught us how to go about the real world and college life and I feel like health 101 did the same.
My intended major is Rec Therapy I am also interested in occupational therapy because of the movement patterns you get to help out with as well as the focus on fine motor skills. Speech therapy also interests me because of how involved it is with the vocal cords and other diagnoses such as autism. The benefit in having a parallel plane is you just never know what the future holds. Having something in a way to “fall back on” is ideal because figuring out what you want to do for the rest of your life can be challenging. Since my intended major is rec therapy these both relate because they are therapeutic majors. So these relate because it would be helping someone gain function in a sensory system that is not working properly.
