Entrepreneurship

ENTR 301: Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship

This course taught me how to become an entrepreneur through classroom discussions and group assignments. I learned how entrepreneurial ventures are founded based on opportunities to solve existing problems, and I had the opportunity to brainstorm different business ideas to solve problems I had an interest in. After coming up with two business ideas, I gave an elevator speech to the class in order to “sell my business idea,” and received constructive feedback to improve my pitch.

Following this, I formed a group with a group of peers from different areas of study, and we conducted a feasibility analysis of our six business ideas combined. We came up with the idea to form a business called Fit-Go, which is an outdoor-fitness app that is based on the customization of geographical location and fitness goals.

Our group constructed a business model, then each group member came up with a financial projection for the first few years of the business. Finally, the group put all our work together to form a business plan. Our business plans were presented to the class at the end of the semester, and feedback was given by our peers so that we could learn from our experience. Overall, my group worked very well together. We were able to come up with creative ideas, meet deadlines, and work as a team. My team’s final business plan is shown below.

I was interested in taking this course because becoming an entrepreneur in my field is something I can envision myself doing. I am passionate about health, wellness, and the outdoors, and I would love to found a business based on my passions. Along with that, there are many opportunities for physical therapists to found their own businesses and entrepreneurial ventures. My hope is that I am able to use this class as a springboard for my future entrepreneurial endeavors.
