Instructions

Exploring Culture

I had to learn about customs and traditions that other families and cultures practice. In one of my project I had to write a story based on the tradition I learned about. I think it is cool how other cultures celebrate birthdays, for instance when Hispanic daughter turn 16 they have this big celebration and so do families in America.

Engaging in Communities

Although I don’t have a picture of the community I value, I will say they are worth being sought out. The two engagements I am in is Her Campus and Ebony Impact Gospel Choir and I feel it is important to bond and get to know the people I am working with. Both of these connections help me connect with people who have the same interest as me.

Interpersonal Communication

This semester I had to complete a TalkAbroad and I feel every year it is a challenge for me to get the hang of the conversation because I normally feel prepared enough for it. There were a lot of things I could’ve done differently, but I feel it gives me a reality check once I have got through the first conversation. I feel that when I had to do my conversation with my Professor I felt better about it than I did before. I feel like I still struggle with structure and speaking what I want to say sometimes.

Presentational Speaking

I was nervous at first when trying to speak with my Professor, I have had her three times now and each time I would allow myself to get anxious. I would overthink a lot and that would mainly be my problem, but im learning that holding a conversation in a language you aren’t that familiar with is supposed to be a challenge. So, I started using my hands and other things to better help get my point across rather than get mad at myself for not being able to say the word I wanted. Relaxing I feel better help me understand what I needed to hear for in the sentences she was speaking. Relaxing and trying to use body movements really help me feel in a sense in control of the situation I was facing.

Presentational Writing

I had to write stories for my class projects and at first I didn’t like doing them because it was hard to write in Spanish than my actual language so I felt limited and it would make me want to give up. I am glad I didn’t In the meantime I tried to learn new words to help my vocabulary here and there so I could express what I felt or wanted to say. I honestly had to get over myself and my feelings towards writing in Spanish.

Interpretive Listening

I a lot of the listening I hard was to match the word with how it sounds. At first I struggled a bit because I wouldn’t pay attention to what I was listening for, but later on I got better at paying attention to how the word it suppose to be said.

Interpretive Reading

For my Lingro Learning I had to read different stories pertaining to the topic we were on and how it related to hispanic culture.

I felt it was hard for me to understand the vocabulary at times, I had to go back a review what I was learning to try and retain the information and moral of the story. What I found most interesting is that these stories I was reading are more factual than I thought they would be. I think with each assignment i had a better understanding about it and it has helped me in the long run with my vocabulary.
