My current major is Cybercrime and while I am studying in this field, I have noticed how it has a lot to do with cybersecurity and has a strong emphasis on crime that involves the internet and technology. I already knew this would be the case before choosing this major because you really can’t learn about Cybercrime without knowing the ends and outs of cybersecurity. My major is knowing the laws of cybercrimes and knowing what different companies and organizations do the prevent and catch criminal in the act of committing crimes over the internet. Things such as hacking, malware, DDoS attacks, and so on are key topics I learn about in my classes. On the other hand, it is important that I learn the basics of the world of crime and justice so during my years in college I will be taking classes to learn about how the justice system truly works and why people commit crimes in the first place. In my first semester of school, I took a introduction to criminology class that thought me a lot of those topics. While in that class I got an understanding of why criminal do what they do and also learned what might have caused them to do it in the first place. Things like your race, gender, and habitat all play a role in shaping you into the person you are today. That means it can also turn you into the world of crime. What I picked up about criminal who use the internet to do their work, like doing so because they can use tools to keep themselves anonymous and hide their activities. As I continue to go through my college experience and keep learning, I hope to have a deep understanding of cybersecurity and also crime as a whole to ready myself to step in the ongoing battle we face against cybercriminals.
