ODU has a plethora of majors to choose form and a good amount of them even ties in with cybersecurity. The first one I am going to talk about it is the one I am currently taking which is Cybercrime. Cybercrime (like I wrote about last time) is a mixture of Cybersecurity and Criminology put into one study. I found interest in this major because the idea of working in law-enforcement but also find a way to incorporate my love for technology and everything computers so Cybercrime was my best bet. Cybercrime is a big business, as conspiratorial smugglers and hackers infuse our computers with virus attacks to steal our identities and financial data so it is important that we have good workforce of people who are trained in this subject. Another good example of a major offered by ODU and has cybersecurity involved with it is Cyber Operations. Cyber Operations is an interdisciplinary major encompassing the entire scope of cyberspace and related operations that are both technical and non-technical (i.e., ethical, legal, human-centered, etc.) in nature. Cyber Operations is a complementary discipline to Cybersecurity (ODU webpage). Cyber Operations is basically an interdisciplinary major that encompasses many facets of technology that include the human aspect also. Next, is the obvious Cybersecurity itself which is the focal point of this e-portfolio entry. As the name implies, the Cybersecurity major heavily focuses on the inner workings of cybersecurity and what happens in that work space. Last but not least, Computer Science includes a good amount of Cybersecurity. Because Computer Science is a broader study, it includes many topics such as Cybersecurity. This is good for students who want to dive into the world of computer technology but don’t exactly have a specific study to undertake in mind which allows you to get the foundation classes of other studies you may have interest in.
