Introduction to Networking and Security

This course introduces students to modern networking concepts and technology. IT 315 also provides students with the fundamental concepts, technologies, components and issues related to communications and data networks. The topics discussed throughout the semester include network architectures, infrastructures, services, protocols, cyber attacks, adversaries, and defense.

The objective of this course is to introduce modern networking concepts and technology. At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe the fundamental concepts, technologies, components and issues related to communications and data networks.
  • Describe a basic network architecture given a specific need and set of hosts/clients.
  • Apply the obtained knowledge of network technologies to design and construct a working network.

As a culminating final project to demonstrate proficiency in the course objectives, we had to conduct a case analysis on the task of designing a wired network for an assigned local high school. My case analysis of that project can be found below:
