PrivacyRights.org is a non-profit organization that collects information regarding data breaches that have occurred in the United States since 2005. They make this information public knowledge to keep everyone in the know in case companies and organizations fail to disclose data breaches as they are legally obligated to and to make you aware that individual data is compromised more often than one may think. Researchers can use the information from this site to pinpoint states, companies, and possibly individuals targeted to monitor trends in data breaches and possibly anticipate future breaches. Along with that, researchers can use the trends to assist other companies in formulating or updating their policies, infrastructure, and employee awareness and education to prevent them from becoming the next company getting reported.
