After completing the Social Media Disorder scale, I scored a 0 out of 9. It is determined that if you answer Yes to 5 of the 9 questions asked, you are said to have a Social Media Disorder. This scale is catered mostly to teens and adolescents, but can still be relevant to adults as well. The questions asked in the social media disorder scale seemed to be a little vague with just the yes/no approach. Maybe quantifying the amount of time spent per day using social media or how many social media apps are utilized would shed more light on how much time is being consumed by social media and if someone really does have a disorder. I did think that the questions regarding if your family has brought up concerns or if you have lied to your family when asked were good questions. If you are evading the issues, you may indeed have one. The different patterns found across the world are expected because exposure and access to social media vary. If devices are not readily accessible to individuals, I would expect the results of this scale to be lower than someone that has access right in their pocket. As more areas are exposed to social media access, I expect for the usage to increase. Also, as something is shiny and new, it is highly utilized, but as you get more comfortable using it and it gets old, the usage is usually reduced.
