- Where does IT “fit” in an organization?
- What are the Roles & Responsibilities w/in IT?
- How should IT itself be organized?
The “typical” organization components of a business are CEO, Operations, Marketing, Sales, Finance, HR. Other components of a business are the supply chain. The supply chain fits in an organization due to its benefits. All businesses rely on their supply chain whether it’s something small like office supplies or something big like an engine to a jet. Businesses have multiple suppliers, who have multiple suppliers. The Supply chain collectively has the responsibility to move a product from the suppliers of raw materials to the suppliers of intermediate components, then to final production and then to the customer or whoever. Theres also different types of suppliers for different tasks and materials. In order for these suppliers to order materials, etc. They need a system, and that system needs protection from malware, phishing, and any other cyber-attacks. This is how IT can fit in an organization. Not only can it help with the supply chain but with the components of a business mentioned earlier, CEO, Operations, Marketing, Sales, Finance, HR. With the advanced technology today almost, every company relies on technology and that where IT comes in. A business has to make its profit by selling a product or services and it needs a system to do this. Products are developed by operations, positioned by marketing, sold by sales. In order for a company to be successful it needs organization and a system to store all their information and that’s ITs job to keep that information secure and create policies to mitigate risks. Their roles and responsibilities are to strategically plan, manage servers, networks, ensure system stability, maintaining network infrastructure and software applications, providing technical support to users, and overall protecting the organization from cyber threats.
