Hola! My name is Asia Guns. I am from Hyattsville, Maryland but I am a transfer student from a university in North Carolina. I am currently a sophomore at Old Dominion University studying to get my Bachelors degree in Dance with a minor in Entrepreneurship. Once I graduate college I plan to start off as a professional dancer/performer for important events and then I plan to open my own dance studio and start competing at competitions and performances. Spanish is the first language I plan to learn. Speaking Spanish will allow me to work with younger kids whose first language is Spanish and incorporate their culture into my different dance pieces. I love dancing! When I was growing up I was always a part of some dance performance with my school or my community. Once I got to high school I started dancing competitively and doing even more parades and performances in my community. Doing that made my passion for dance grow and at that point I knew dancing is something I could see me doing for the rest of my life. When I was planning my next steps after graduation I knew that I wanted to keep dancing. A coach for a competitive dance team at St. Andrews University in North Carolina reached out offering me a scholarship to dance at their University. It was an amazing experience but still wasn’t quite what I was looking for. Which was to grow my knowledge in dance and be able to dance. I heard of the amazing dance program they have at Old Dominion University and I knew it would be the right fit for me. I have yet to regret my decision. They offer so many different classes and performances to the students while creating everlasting friendships and amazing dancers.
