End of Course Reflection
As I take a look back on this semester and reflect on the material that I have learned; case analysis on privacy, data ethics, and corporate social responsibilities would be most relevant for my planned career. These topics have helped me analyze the ethics cybersecurity with different tools. Cyber Ethics is defined as the responsible behavior of your action at internet. The purpose of this course is to create awareness of important of ethics. Cybersecurity ethics are the moral guidelines that govern the use of computers and information system.
The case analysis on privacy is essential for a career in cybersecurity. Privacy is a human right, and everyone should have respect for someone’s private life. Privacy requires cybersecurity to protect computers and computer systems from unauthorized access. Privacy and cybersecurity are interconnected. The more personal information is being processed, the more organizations rely on cyber security to secure personal data. My view on privacy as stayed the same because I know this one of the main components of cybersecurity.
The case analysis on data ethics is also essential for cybersecurity careers. User data needs to be protected to prevent it from being misused by third parties for fraudulent activity. Many companies take this data for granted when it comes to keeping it safe and difficult to access. Data that is not kept secure is far easier to access from hackers and outside sources.
Companies have to create highly useful information while at the same time protecting the privacy of the people whose data they are gathering. Cybersecurity is essential for data protection. My position on data ethics slightly changed throughout the course because I had to be very open minded in an ethics class there are multiples approaches.
Finally, the case analysis on Corporate Social Responsibility. Cybersecurity has moved into the realm of corporate social responsibilities. By placing an emphasis on security as a social imperative, brands can play a significant role in stopping the spread of disinformation, securing the data that is most important to our way of life and making our digital ecosystem a safer place. CSR was a very broad and interesting topic. My view on CSR has deepened my knowledge on how businesses should operate. This was my favorite case analysis because it was about security breaches and how corporations handle those situations.
Cyber security ethics is important because it teaches students various technical cybersecurity skills from many perspectives. The ethical framework for PHIL355E leaves student with skills for their future careers. This course teaches students how ethics play a huge part in how digital companies are expanding. Overall, this class was very challenging, it forced you to think from other people perspectives.
