• Riverside Regional Medical Center is a well-known facility located in the Hampton Roads area. It is a hospital that has various volunteer experiences that engage community help and support members of the healthcare throughout the hospital. Volunteers can assist in checking in on patients, office assistance, and even comfort a patient who is too far gone. Currently due to covid restrictions, Riverside has suspended all volunteer programs to protect everyone’s safety.  

• What is their purpose/mission?  

• Riverside has partnered with multiple community organizations to show their commitment to care for others as they would care for their loved ones. Riverside Health System partnered with Williamsburg Landing to offer its program, ChooseHome, to residents throughout the middle peninsula region. This organization became the first provider of community-based continuing care and its purpose is to provide services and benefits to older adults who wish to remain home but want access to a variety of continuing care services.  

• What services does the partner provide? 

• Williamsburg Landing in partnership with Riverside offers home care, in-home technology, and priority access to facility-based care to participants requiring higher care 

• What needs of the community do they address? 

• This partnership will address the growing need for the services of seniors in the Williamsburg area.  

• Why is this organization important to the community? 

• ChooseHome is important to the community because it helps seniors identify their goals and develop strategies to achieve them.

• After reflecting on the organization’s goals and mission, my values, opinions, and beliefs on the importance of health have grown for one main reason. I believe that the health field is designed to provide care for others as you wish your loved ones to have.  Riverside Medical has shown that this is possible and is being done in today’s society.  

• How do these services relate to your intended career field?  

• ChooseHome services relate to my intended career field because as a nurse, I will be providing care with patients of all ages who may need assistance in lifelong health and services.  

• What Degree Program (other than your current major) could it relate to? 

• Other than my current major, it could relate to the Health Services degree program because this community partnership also deals with financial assistance.  

• Would you choose to pursue that major as your parallel major? 

• Yes  

• Why or why not? 

• I would pursue that major because it offers the opportunity to view the business side of healthcare while also making a difference in helping our community.
