Learning Style

STEP 1: EVALUATE YOUR STUDY HABITS

  1. Describe your current methods of study. How do you study for each class?  I prepared for each class by creating a set schedule each day for which includes studying and completing assignments.
    1. What specific techniques do you use in class? I do not use specific techniques in class.
    2. What specific techniques do you use outside of class?  Outside of class, I use different study materials to improve my knowledge such as group discussions, quizlets, and flashcards.
  2. Identify one class in which you are doing well (not HLTH 101).   What study methods work best and why?

One class I am doing well in is Math 103 because I have adopted a new study method, completing a module each day, to refresh myself on past units and help improve math skills.

STEP 2: IDENTIFY AND APPLY NEW LEARNING TECHNIQUES
  1. Identify one class where you are experiencing challenges and address the following questions.

One class I am experiencing challenges in is Chemistry lecture. I will start to go to office hours available, begin reviewing notes nightly, and challenging myself with practice quizzes. I plan to give at least 4-5 hours a week of studying but continue to review notes nightly. Moreover, study hours will take place during the evening times after assignments have been completed. Based on my current understanding, I should spend more time on ionic compound, atomic radius, and ionization. I often find myself struggling to stay focus when studying for this class but I remind myself that this an important class that can help me achieve my end goal, earning my degree. I was confused about balancing ion compounds and asked a friend to help clarify the process. Thus, to my highest extent I plan to take advantage of all the learning supports offered to me and materials I use to study. My exam preparation includes creating study guides and discussing problems with classmates.  On the other hand, being on social media and taking long break periods are distractions I need to cut down on to help prepare myself for the next exam. Furthermore, I will be taking the time to review the previous exam and clarify any problems I may have.

  1. What is one new technique you could try in class to help you better understand the material?  The Study Cycle is one new technique I would try in class to help me better understand the material.
  2. What is one new technique you could try outside of class to help you better understand the material?

Remedies for Procrastination is a new technique I would try outside the class to help me better understand the material.
