Major/Career
a. What is your intended major and why did you choose this major? My intended major is Nursing and I choose this major because ever since I was younger, I have always had a passion to help others around me.
b. What skills or abilities do you possess that make this major/career a good choice for you? I have great leadership skills, very compassionate, caring and great work ethic.
c. What experience, if any, do you have that relates to your chosen major/career? In past summers, I went to a nursing camp that gave me in-hospital experience and taught me life lessons that stirred me towards my intended major. Also, throughout my high school experience, I was a part of a STEM program called Governer’s Health Science, that gave the confirmation that my intended major will give me a successful career.
d. In what type of setting would you prefer to work? Clinic or hospital
e. What are your career goals (in 5 years/in 10 years)? In 5 years, I see myself graduated from undergrad and admitted into my chosen nursing school. I will be moved off campus and gaining experience working in a local clinic. In 10 years, I see myself with a well-developed career as a labor & delivery nurse practitioner living in North Carolina.

2. Transition to college
a. What do you expect to be the biggest difference between high school and college? The biggest difference between high school and college is the freedom that comes with living on your own and learning how to balance this new freedom with staying focus on school.
b. What do you expect to be your biggest challenge this semester? My biggest challenge this semester will be to maintain my GPA and staying focus.
c. If you live on campus: What do you expect to be your biggest challenge with moving away to college? I expect my biggest challenge with moving away to college is being alone for the first time and handling the responsibility.
e. Do you have a job/ or plan to get a job? No, I do not have a job right now but plan on getting one. If so, where? How many hours will you be working per week? Less than 25 hours a week
Study habits
a. Is there a difference between “studying” and “homework”? Explain your answer. Yes, Homework is the assignment that is given an instructor and meant to be completed by the deadline. Study is taking extra time out of your schedule and dedicating a couple hours a day to review material and prepare yourself for the next class period or exam.
b. How much time do you plan to spend studying for each class every week? about 30 hours

c. Where do you plan to study? In my room or study hall in my dorm
i. What potential distractions can you anticipate? friends, Netflix, social media
ii. How do you plan to avoid these distractions? I plan to avoid distractions by limiting the hours I spend with friends or on my phone to spend more time studying and completing work.
d. What time of day is your best time to study and why? The best time for me to study is late at night around 9 pm to 12 am, because there are fewer distractions due to fewer people being up.
e. This Fall, you are in online courses, some of which do not meet at a specific time, how do you plan to manage all of your assignments? I have designed a calendar and daily to-do list to help balance all the assignments.
f. Think about all of your commitments i.e. job, family, social life (from a distance and wear your mask! #ReignResponsibly). How do you plan on balancing your various commitments? Thinking about all of my commitments at ODU, I plan on balancing them by creating daily schedules and learning to not procrastinate to enjoy some free time.
Learning style
a. What specific study techniques do you think work best for you? I think studying in the daytime, creating quizlets, and having study group sessions work best for myself.
b. Do you use different study techniques for different classes? No, my studying techniques work for all my classes such as creating quizlets, flashcards, and study guides.

b. Name one non-academic resource at ODU and how it can help you this semester. One non-academic resource that may help is creating friendships that will help when I may miss something an instructor stated during class. Also, they can help deal with stress and relate to some things I have going on.

d. Name one resource at ODU you would like to learn more about, and why. I would like to learn about ODU’s tutoring services and academic coaching because I know I will need help adjusting myself for transitioning from high school to college.

f. Is there a club or organization you plan to join this semester and what do you expect to gain from this experience? If not, why not? I do want to join some clubs and organizations but I have not taken the time to learn about them yet.
