Volunteer Service / Henrico Doctor’s Hospital

Henrico Doctors Volunteer Services provided tons of different opportunities for you to do so it all depends on the one you choose, because each volunteer job has different task for their volunteer to complete. For instances you have 3 sections of different volunteer work you have the Information Desk & Waiting room, Nursing Unit Area, Ancillary Department. In each of these departments they all have a certain type of job that does certain task. Depending on which on you choose will determine on whether you experience interaction with patients or are just stocking and fixing charts.

What is their purpose/ Mission?

As for Henrico Doctor’s Mission, it is to always put the patients needs first, while also remaining to develop people trust and to develop a strong physician relationship. Although that is apart of their mission the primary mission is to be committed to the care and improvement of human life.

What services does Henrico Doctor’s provide?

Since it is a hospital their are a lot of different service that they provide for the community they save lives, they treat and provide care for those that are ill or injured, they deliver babies and provide care for expecting mother’s, etc.

What needs of the community do they address?

Well for one they are available to assist those in need all the time due to them being 24 hours. They also are able to provide the emergency with the best care of due to the fact that they are a level II. They also have a very good cancer institute called The Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute. There cancer patients receive really good care as well as amazing new technology to help take care of their patients. They also have other great facilities to help other patients depending on their diagnoses.

Why is this organization important to the community?

Without this hospital people would lack the amazing service as well as the high quality services that it provides for their patients. Not only that but it would increase the chance of fatal injuries due to the lack of a close in rage hospital.

All in all I still believe in the importance of health care, and really can’t wait to have a hand in improving the health in human life. With the research done to find different volunteer opportunities, I have found plenty of volunteer activities that I know for sure that I will be applying in the future for.

How do these services relate to your intended career field?

Now even though my intended major is nursing it was always a goal of mine to become a doctor. Now growing up I still wish to fulfill that dream, but if I can’t I play to become a nurse. So with that little detail of my goal you can see that it has always been the medical field for me, and working & volunteering in the hospital is giving me the experience I need to pursue my future career.

What Degree Program (other than your current major) could it relate to?

Honestly I do plan on talking to my advisor to see if its possible to pursue my first career, which is a Doctor. If I can not pursue that career or if I don’t have the qualifications to pursue that career, I then plan to continuing my nursing career as my fall which would be the nursing program.

Would you choose to pursue that major as your parallel major?

Yes, I would choose nursing as parallel major; because regardless if I do not get accepted in the nursing program at Old Dominion University, I do plan to apply to other nursing programs to ensure that I can continue on my nursing career path beyond ODU.
