Pre-Semester Reflection

My name is Aaliyah Smith and I am majoring in health service administration. I plan to change my major to nursing once I figure out how to do it. I am a very kind and respectful person, While I also love helping people so I feel like nursing would be a great thing for me.  I honestly do not know what type of environment I want to work with, but I do know that it is a high possibility that it will have children. In about 5-10 years I see myself settling in my nursing career and hopefully starting a family of my own. Post major test I became curious about nuclear medicine technology, public health, and dental hygiene.

One of the things I am finding different about high school and college is the workload. I have way more homework than I had in High school and I feel as if studying is a necessity. Which will be one of my biggest challenges, establishing a balance to it all. Not being close to my family is another one of my biggest challenges living on a college campus, mostly because my family is all very close. So for the first year of college my mother does not want me working at all, so I plan on focusing on school. In the questions, it asks if I thought there was a difference between studying and homework; I do think there’s a difference, some people think of studying as an option while others really need to study. Homework on the other hand is a necessity, considering it is a counted assignment grade.

I personally plan to study for all my classes, but I plan to study harder on my content based classes. When I am studying, studying in my dorm can be a little distracting, so I end up either going to the library or to the dorm study room so I can focus.    When the sun goes down I start to sometimes get tired and want to get to bed, so studying somewhere else helps give me energy. In order to keep all my classes in check I plan to look on blackboard and get ahead on deadlines. As for my family and social life I plan to make sure my school work comes first, and that everything is done before everything else. As for my study habits personally I like to do a lot of highlighting while also writing down important facts for all my classes. I also plan to use the writing center to help me with my English composition class, and I also plan to use the student recreation center. When I was in high school I was involved with the National art honor society and the National English Honor Society, which was really cool because I was really interested in art and writing. This year I actually don’t plan to join any clubs, because I want to focus on school this year.
