Study habits
- How much time do you spend studying for each class now vs. at the beginning of the semester?
At the beginning of the semester, I did not take studying seriously because I rarely did it in high school and I still passed with some pretty good grades. Now in college, I have learned that studying is really important, especially during this pandemic. The Zoom calls sometimes does not supply enough information to help so studying comes in handy there. As for my studying habits now vs. at the beginning of the semester is that I value it more so I try to do it as much as possible. So for textbook based classes I study a little almost everyday. At the beginning of the semester I just studied it the night before I had the class.
- How have your study habits changes?
I have somewhat changed my habits. IN my english class it was one of my goals to improve my studying techniques so I have been trying several different techniques to see which one works best for me. All in all I have found that the study techniques that I have been using works better for me, but I have resorted to typing some of my notes that I take while reading instead of writing them down. It makes it easier to read as well as faster when I have to study different things.
3. What specific study techniques do you think work best for you? How do these vary from class to class?
I personally think that my normal study technique works better for me; which is when I read through the important information and then highlight what I feel is important and want to write more information on. Once I finish reading and highlighting the information, I then go back and read through and then type down the informational points that I highlighted as well as some of my personal notes.
Transition to college
- What did you expect college would be like 14 weeks ago?
Honestly I felt like it was going to be a little harder than it is, but as I continue on I’ve learned many things that would help me with the stress of it all. As long as I focus and stay on task I should succeed perfectly. I can’t get distracted and I have to take my work as well as studying seriously, because at the end of the day it is my efforts to work that will either help me or tear me down in the long run.
2. What is a resource or activity you have found helpful this semester?
I have found the study rooms at the webb as well as the study rooms in the library to be very helpful. I personally enjoy getting outside of my normal area to help me focus and get my work done. I also enjoyed the activities that were placed on campus for the student to do, especially with the COVID situation going on. There have been many different things that I participated in to get a free t-shirt, free cups, as well as free hand sanitizers and other gifts. I also enjoyed attending the events at the student recreation center, especially their classes. I attended a spin class and a dance class that I really look forward to doing again, and while I was there I did get to get a good workout done.
3. What is a resource or activity you have found unhelpful this semester?
Throughout this semester I can Honestly say that I haven’t found any of the resources that I have received or attended unhelpful. I participated in several activities and at the end of those events and activities I can’t say that I didn’t get anything done or not learn anything. The events on campus are actually helpful and fun, I personally can’t wait to get back to the school to attend more fun events and activities.
4.What is something you wish you knew 14 weeks ago?
I wish that I knew about all the resources that were provided to us, because some of the resources I didn’t learn about until the end of October and early November. I also wish I knew a little more information about my meal plan that I was given. At the beginning of the semester I was using my flex points way more than I was using my meal swipes. If I would have known that I could use my meal swipes at the different fast food places rather than using the flex, I would be going into next semester with way more flex points than I have.
4. Name something you have learned this semester that will assist you next semester?
Well as I previously mentioned I learned about the different activities and the resources that are provided at the school, this way I can really take advantage of them to ensure that the last semester of my freshman year ends on a great note. I learned that studying is major, and I know that next semester with my other classes I will make studying a priority. Also with the meal plan, I plan to really save my flex points unless I really need it. I also plan to take advantage of the study rooms at the Webb and library, while also exploring the other resources that are available to me that I may have missed in the previous semester. I also plan to look to my fellow classmates and living community when I need help to see if I can receive it from the other or possibly help other students as well.
