Assignment Takeaway V

I love doing service and I wish that I did not have any bills to pay so I can make a living off helping people. I love being part of an organization that helps others and focuses on service in the community. One of my favorite service projects we recently did was cleaning a safe house for the Samaritan House. The Samaritan House is an organization at that helps foster safety, growth, and self-sufficiency in adults and teenagers that have been affected by sexual assault, domestic violence, human trafficking and homelessness.

Reflection on this assignment I learned that kindness is important and that everyone should try and help other when needed. This is relevant today especially in schools because many students feel alone or are being bullied and no one does anything to stop it. A simple act of kindness could be talking to that student that no one talks to or standing up for the kid that is getting bullied. Being kind and considerate to other is not hard, but some individuals in the world don’t care and it is sad.

Assignment Takeaway IV

As I reflect on this assignment, I can see how some of these are not accurate, again, mainly because I have never been in love. It was a difficult assignment because it was hard to hypothetically answer some of these questions. Most of my questions were neutral because I did not know how to answer. As I have mentioned before love is different for everyone, and until I fall in love I can’t have my own definition. This is relevant to me because it made me realize and reflect on friends and family’s relationships around me. For many of them, these questions are relevant. This assignment was my least favorite because it just wasn’t something that I could relate to.

Assignment Takeaway III

As I reflect on this assignment, it is easy to say that racism is a concept that will always be relevant. Racism is as prominent today as it was during slavery. The only difference is that the white man cannot legally own Black men, but is it really any different? Michael Tirade’s hateful words were the only reaction he knew of, it is the only reaction that many others turn to because these negative terms are known to have that effect on that Black community. Institutional racism is a form of racism created by social and political institutions. It is for this reason that racism continues to exist because it is governed by the behavioral norms that support racist thinking.

This assignment is relevant to me because it is an example of the racism that still exists today. One of the things I never thought I would see in my lifetime is the KKK, ever existent. In high school, I remember learning about the KKK. The history books showed these individuals wearing these full white outfits and I read about what they did and what they believed in and I was astonished. Then, months after Trump’s election a rally was held, a rally full of KKK, a rally full of white Supremacists, now please tell me how racism doesn’t exist?

Assignment Takeaway II

As I reflect on this assignment, I realize that I am slightly vain, but I am not the only one. In completing this assignment, I acknowledge that social media is all of the same and you do not notice it until you take a step back. The thing is, even after you notice it, it doesn’t mean you are going to change. I will continue to use my social media the same way. Social media is an escape from the real world, so no one wants to log on and see depressing things. But I do not feel that people should exaggerate their lives. Do not make your life look better than what it is. This is personally relevant because I am social media and follow tons of others on social media. This assignment allowed me to take a step back and reevaluate my social media and why I use it. Why do I use it? Who am I trying to show off to?
