Test 3 works toward the 9th and 10th course objective which are to develop the knowledge to calculate moist air properties (Psychrometry) and define different air-conditioning processes using the Psychometric chart. This specific test does not have a provided solution set, however, the comments provided gave some direction. For problem one I drew the incorrect processes in the psychrometric chart, as well as calculating for the incorrect variable in place of the air flow rate. Problem 2 was the problem that my group partner Jalen worked on primarily. For his work he received the comments of not using the rule of thumb and questions of how he obtained 2 values. Before receiving the grade, I was under the assumption that we had done much better on the exam than we did. Learning that I made a mistake before I was able to start calculations makes me much more understanding of the grade received. I believe my specific weakness regarding this exam was my reading of the psychrometric chart. If done correctly, the values for my states would have been properly recorded. While I believe my strength was my calculation for the capacity of the cooling and dehumidifying unit.

In this test I ran into issues early, feeling lost on where to start. With that, I reached out to Professor Ayala who assisted me by guiding me in a direction where I was able to proceed. To complete the test, I broke it into sections. I felt that after completing the psychrometric chart and recording the variables for the states I could take more time to work on the calculations. I don’t think I would change anything about the process, but it is apparent that the answers are incorrect. This test taught me how to more effectively read psychrometric charts. Engineers use psychrometric charts to determine properties of air vapor in relation to the amount of energy per unit mass of air. This is applied in the development of air conditioning systems. In my career I don’t know what applications I would be using this for specifically. I am more so focused on a more drafting focused profession over design. In the future I am certain that the knowledge learned will be used in preparation for the FE and PE exams. I have not needed to apply any knowledge of thermal applications in work, however I did need it in the course FE Review. I feel that I improved the most in my manipulation of the first law. It has been something that I struggled with as the class progressed. I don’t see much of this course intersecting with my desired field. I spent about 5 hours working on problem 1. About 2 hours reading the psychrometric chart and determining states, 2 hours on calculations and the last hour was spent writing out the formatting.
