SPAN 101

Exploring Culture

LingroLearning provided me with multiple assignments that helped me learn about different cultures and some of their customs through cultural exploration activities. They had multiple different Spanish speaking countries and had people from each that would give examples of how they live in their specific country. By having people from multiple Spanish speaking countries it also shows how culture can be slightly different from country to country.

The cultural exploration sections were a great way to show the differences between the culture I grew up in and know, as well as the differences between Spanish speaking countries. It was cool to learn that there are some many little differences between those cultures and that I shouldn’t assume they are all the same.

Engaging in Communities

Engaging with your community in any culture is important and learning to speak Spanish with the community I’m a part of has really contributed to my personal ability to speak Spanish. Throughout the semester we were required to have conversations with our teacher in Spanish as well as our classmates. I also enjoy speaking Spanish with my younger brother who is currently taking Spanish in high school by taking to each other we help one another grow our confidence in speaking Spanish. I truly believe its important to find a good community you can learn and develop the language with.

This is a video of me and one of my classmates speaking Spanish together.

Interpersonal Communication

In class our teacher gave us many worksheets that required us to interact with our classmates and ask them questions as well as giving us the chance to learn how to write sentences together. We would also use LingeroLearning under conversar and that would connect our whole class so we could write sentences and respond to one another in Spanish.

These sections under conversar would allow for us to be creative in our answers as well as helping us practice reading and responding in Spanish. We were able to discuss many different topics throughout the semester as well as get help from our professor about writing sentences.

Presentational Speaking

We were required in Proyecto number 4 to make videos of ourselves describing either our homes or the college campus. I talked about my three favorite places in my apartment, my living room, dinning room and kitchen. This was a fin project that allowed me to talk about all of my favorite places in my home as well as get feed back from my classmates about my apartment.

This project challenged me to learn new vocab that described my house and I had to get pretty creative to get the video to the correct time requirements. Many people chose to do their video on campus, but I don’t live on campus so I don’t spend much time there besides the time I spend in the classroom. Because I don’t spend too much time on campus my apartment had all of my favorite places that I spend most of my time.

Presentational Writing

In class we were assigned many writing assignments as, two of those being class projects. This project shows my normal schedule written out in Spanish.

This project was helpful to me not only by helping me learn how to form better sentences it also helped me learn how to correctly conjugate the verbs in Spanish. Learning to form these sentences helped me with many activities we did in class including my final oral exam. Knowing my normal schedule and being able to see that in Spanish also helped with my reading abilities. The most difficult part of this project was learning to form sentences correctly but with the help of my professor and some practice I was able to learn to form sentences pretty well. This will help me in future situations when I need to have a more complex conversation in Spanish.

Interpretive Listening

LingeroLearning provided many videos throughout the whole semester to help break down the things we were learning. These videos helped break down the things we learned in class as well as helping us on all of our homework. We also learned by listening to our classmates projects and leaving comments about them.

This is a picture of one of the contrasena worksheets that was paired with a video that helped further break down what we were learning at this point in class. I couldn’t upload the video so I added the paired photo.

Interpretive Reading

Many of the homework assignments required this semester required us to read and understand spanish and to put our answers back into spanish. These assignments helped me grown my Spanish vocab immensely.

These assignments allowed me to learn the language much easier. Although they moved pretty fast they required me to do some outside research to learn the vocab faster to stay on track in class. The many different vocab words were interesting and it was always fun to learn new words. All of the assignments helped me become more confident in my capabilities of speaking Spanish. Another thing that i found interesting from the assignments was learning new things about the Spanish culture. Learning about all the small differences they had from Spanish country to Spanish country was always super interesting.
