CYSE 201S Entry 1

Cybersecurity areas I’m most and least interested in:

Digital forensics is an area that I have a lot of interest in. Digital forensics experts analyze and extract information from compromised systems that can be used as evidence in criminal justice proceedings. I enjoy learning and thinking about criminology and law, so this would be a way to pursue a cybersecurity career while also satisfying those interests.

I like the idea of working in incident response. This would be a demanding and rewarding way to spend my career. These professionals are called in immediately following a breach. They have to work in urgent situations to mitigate loss, collect information and restore operations to the injured party. I like the idea of working under pressure to fix problems in a crisis.

I’m less interested in a role like collections management. I’d like to be working in a technical environment, solving system problems. I’m not ruling it out, but I think overseeing procedural matters would be less interesting to me. I’ve had administrative roles in the past and it’s not what I’m going into cybersecurity to do. That said, I’m new to the environment and probably don’t fully understand what is required of these professionals.
