Reaction to Ted Talk on Digital Forensics, Commentary on His Career Path.
This speech describes his career as having been a transition from working at an accounting firm, to becoming a digital forensics investigator. He explains that at the time, there wasn’t a traditional career path into digital forensics. People tended to find their way into the field on accident. In his case, he was working at an accounting firm and when they needed a hand with IT work, he offered to help. Over time, his interest in IT grew. When working at a larger firm that was putting together a digital forensics team, he jumped at the opportunity and his career took off from there.
It’s interesting to note that this was a completely different time. The video was made seven years ago, and he had seventeen years of experience at the time. Twenty five years later and you can study digital forensics in an academic environment. While his path to this career is still possible today, it’s no longer just one of a few avenues into this kind of work.
