Describe three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe.

Computers have streamlined and simplified many of our daily tasks, they also allow us to do many things that humans couldn’t accomplish before. With computers we can now program them to do difficult and undesired jobs such as assembly line workers. With the machines taking over it minimizes workplace accidents and also speeds up the rate at which the product is completed, since unlike humans the machines do not need breaks. Computers also allow us to communicate with whomever we want, whenever we want. So if anyone was out and they felt imperil or in need of assistance they could call law enforcement or friends and family on their mobile phone. However computers also pose a threat to us in such a way that many people make it their job to secure them, because now with us in the newfound digital world threats can access sensitive information stored on our pc’s and phones.

How do engineers make cyber networks safer?

Engineers by definition, “apply the principles of science and mathematics to develop economical solutions to technical problems.”. There are many different kinds of engineers that specialize in different areas. Cybersecurity engineers design systems that can defend against cyber attacks. They also test and analyze these systems to see if they are well fit to defend against possible attacks that can occur in the future. Some of their responsibilities include: “recommending security enhancements to management, developing a set of security standards and practices, installing software that helps with notification of intrusions, and installing and using software, such as firewalls and data encryption programs”. So they help manage many things from actually installing software that protects the systems to help analyzing, monitor, and advising the overall security of the systems. Cybersecurity engineers are the backbone of a good cybersecurity program for businesses that are imperative if the business wants to keep their data safe from malicious threats.
