From these three job postings, the Emergency Department nurse at CHKD appeals to me the most. In this position, I could combine my love for the medical field with my love for children, and care for my patients in a positive way. I volunteered each summer during high school at Riverside Regional Medical Center. Each year, I was placed in a different unit and became more comfortable with the hospital setting. This experience also helped me build better communication and people skills which are critical in the medical field. I learned how to function in a demanding environment, but still positively care for patients. I think that my communication skills, time management skills, and adaptability would help me succeed in this job. However, there is always room for improvement. Before applying for a job like this, I should gain more experience working in a hospital and learning to make on the spot decisions. Oftentimes, nurses have to make quick decisions while caring for patients and they do not have room to make a mistake or lack good judgment. To further these skills, I should continue volunteering in various hospitals and apply myself during nursing school and clinicals. This will give me the chance to strengthen my weak areas and become more prepared for my first job in the hospital.
