There are different issues that may arise when storing electronic information about people. An ethical issue can be privacy and confidentiality they are two different issues on different sides of the spectrum but are also the same since your confidential information can also be your private information. With privacy you can determine whether your information will be public or private information and can choose where your information can and cannot be stored on certain systems. For privacy you have to provide your consent in order for businesses or companies to store your data within their systems and they have to provide you a notice if they are storing your personal information. The confidentiality of personal information being stored electronically needs to be an understanding and confirmation between both ends that it is okay for your personal information to electronically stored. Another ethical reason is security breaches, if there are security breaches to a business’s system that would put your personal information at risk to either being stolen or for someone to make your business available for others to see. If a doctor’s office was storing the personal information and there was a security breach that puts patients at risk of their social security number being either stolen or exposed. Data breaches can be reached from a small company to large companies or even the government can have breaches of security and those companies should have technology to protect others information. Another ethical issue can be the data being inaccurate, data needs to be accurate in order to have integrity to the data for both ends to where there is no information being altered or destroyed with the data and with integrity that can ensure authenticity with the data. If there is any loss of data when being transferred can cause an issue with the people whose information could be loss and potentially breached.
