Paired Text*

In this paired text teaching guide that I created for Children’s Literature PREK-8th grades, I developed instructional strategies and resources for teaching with the fiction book Hike by Pete Oswald and the nonfiction text The Magic and Mystery of Trees by Jen Green.  This paired text plan was created for 2nd grade.  In this assignment I previewed both texts for educators.  The text is connected to the Virginia Standards of Learning for reading and science as well as connections for art standards and library research.  Multiple teaching activities are shared to promote literature appreciation and lifelong learning. Multiple websites and further reading suggestions are curated to support continued learning opportunities.

Careful consideration of the learners’ development was given in creating this paired text teaching guide. The activities in this guide are open to multiple patterns of learning differences  and ability levels.  Students are encouraged with choice and reflection opportunities as well as a chance to create, share, and grow while learning. Strategies are used throughout the guide to foster reading engagement for personal learning, growth, and enjoyment.
