SPAN 101

Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

Exploring Culture

Throughout the semester we have done various assingment on Lingrolearning. Lingrolearing is a site where you learn and grow your knowledge on not only speaking spanish but learning the Hispanic culture.

While completing these assignmetns i learned a lot. This site helped me better understand the value of a second langauge and the impact hispanic cultures have on others, from food, schools, algriculuture and more. This challenged me to think outside the box. A lot of times as a human you tend to stay content. While learning and seeing the way culture is it gave me a chance to see what culd be good or fun to me personally. As far as sterotypes I personally never had any concerning hispanic people and cultures. But one thing that suprised be was the multiple holidays the hispanic culture has that one day I can participate in. For example, Holy week. As a religious man I found that cool and affective and defiently something I will participate in.

Engaging in Communities

In life, the way to win is having connections. Having good friends in all fields of study is important ways you can dip your feet in new things to expand your horizon and even your income. Although shyness takes over a lot of people it is important to have good relationships with the peers. Finding a neighbor can be very benefical, share th esame interest, have a support system, and help you feel welcomed if you have mental issues that display otherwise such as depression.

Throughtout this semester as a class we have worked together and shared our thoughts on several assignments. Although this class is about learning spanish and culture while working together some of us have created friendships which is what life is about. Below I will provide a photo of students shairng there opinion on a DB post.

Interpersonal Communication

As far as communication in hte class we periodically had oral exams, where we met with our professor and we had a conversation. She graded us on out communication skills like pronouncement. As the semester went on each conversation was based on the lessons and material we were learning in class. We also had activities on Lingrolearning that recording us pronouncing words and sentences.

One activity that comes to mind is the conversation with the professor. This activity is something I struggled with because im not to good at remembering conjugations. I have certianly grown from the first conversation. By te edn of the semester I’m still not the best but ive came a long way. How I did that was completing the assignments and using it in my everyday life sometimes.

Presentational Speaking

In the spanish class, we were required to have conversations with partners in our class. In these conversation, we had a criteria we had to go by the have a free spoken conversation in spanish. When these conversations would come I would write a script and resite it to a friend to make sure it was memorized and ready to complete with my partner.

During the semster we had four presented conversation with our partners. One specific one I can rememer is the first one. The first conversation we had a lot of challneges like when each person would talk, how we would ask eachother things and how to make it longer than 2 minutes. Mu partner and I eventually got it and ended up recieving an A on the presentation. From that day forward, we prepared days ahead of the due date and were always in sync. WE also created somewhat of a friendship doing so. Because of that friendship we excelled and every other presentation was done in under 30 minutes.

Below is a picture on my partner and I having a fluent conversation about our backgrounds, interest, and what we do in school.

Presentational Writing

One writing assignment we had but is also is my favorite was project 5. For this project we had to nominate one persno in our life that inspired us and was our favorite person. I chose my father and also included a photo of him and I. The assingment and photo is placed below.

Project 5

As you can see above that activity was written in spanish. I have come a long way from writing in spanish, one thing that was difficult was placing accent marks. Doing Lingrolearning I slowly learned where to place the marks. Coming into this class I was very doubtful of passing it now I have learned more than I thought and it has actually stuck with me. Overcoming difficulties are obviously not easy but constantly studying and having repetition is how I overcame my obstacles.

Interpretive Listening

As you know by know Lingrolearning has serval ways to learn spanish, one way that was affective was through recordings we had to listent to. We had breif recording that tell a story or describe actions that we would have to match with words.

One activity I can refer back to that had a listening activity was the pronouncing excersice. Although it was a prep activity this helped mein the long run with correcting simple mistakes wehn i pronounce things. Presented below.
