This class has definitely preceded my expectations. Psych classes are either a hit or miss for me. I either really enjoy them, or they just seem repetitive and boring. This class for sure was really fun and I enjoyed coming to class. This semester has been really hard for me mentally, and this specific class has been really great to have me get out of bed and be in such a welcoming space with such a lovely teacher. I am really happy that I took this course this year. My only regret is that I did not push myself as hard as I should have.

This article was very interesting. It took a few times to read it to understand how all of the pieces went together. Once I got it though, it did make me see all of the ways that women and men are attracted to each other. There are definitely ways that women and men try to have sex with each other. There are many sexual conflicts that can interfere with these tactics, and anger is a huge one. Anger can make these conflicts very strong and can be a massive turn off.

Self-regulation is what the actions that a person puts forward to reach their goals, such as organizing things to set up for their goals. Emotional intelligence is the ability to sense ad perceive emotions. These are related in the way that if a person’s self-regulation is higher they are likely to have a higher emotional intelligence. I took an EQ test and scored 14/20. In comparison, my self-regulation is also slightly above average. I think these fit very well with each other. These go hand in hand because when you are able to set things up in your favor to complete your goals you are also able to deal with the emotions that you are feeling. You are able to feel that you are having a rough day and might need to take a step back or work some more self-help days into your schedule.

This Ted Talk was really interesting to watch! It was really eye opening to see how women are truly affected in the advertisement industry. I do believe that it can go both ways for women and men, which is a little different belief from the woman speaking. She thought that photoshop was used to make men bigger, not thinner. I know that if a man were too big for what a magazine would consider attractive, they would use photoshop to make the man appear thinner and to add muscles, which I think is the same making a woman look thinner. I have notice prior to watching this Ted Talk that the entertainment industry is so hard on women in particular because of their bodies. You need to be a certain weight or height in order to get a job for modeling. In fact, even Disney restricts hiring cast members in their amusement parts to below a certain height and weight. Below I have found five different ads that are distorting the view of a regular, perfectly beautiful woman in order to appeal to the considered definition of “beautiful.”

Persuasion is a mighty weapon that people use. We see persuasion every day in a lot of different areas that we don’t even think of. There are many different ways that people use persuasion, whether it be purposeful or not. We see persuasion in advertisements all over the world. We see advertisements when we scroll through social media, when we watch TV, when we are walking down the street, and even when we go to the doctor’s office. I have three ads below, A, B, and C, that show different types of persuasion ads. Advertisement A shows Jennifer Aniston in an Aveeno ad for lotion. This is showing an attractive source because people think that Jennifer is an attractive person. They see that she looks good and her skin looks good, so it is obvious to the buyers that this lotion will do the same and make them look like Jennifer, which is how they get you to buy the lotion. Advertisement B is an ad from Mayo Clinic. It represents a credible source ad. This is credible because Mayo Clinic is a professional company that is always posting legit and informative information. This source can be trusted with true and factual information. Lastly, advertisement C is an ad that someone posted onto Facebook. This is a not credible source because the information is likely false. It is not a good source of information when you see an ad from a social media post because anyone can make that post, much like Wikipedia is not a good source to use when writing a paper because many people can edit that information.

I did not as well as I wanted on exam one. I went through the questions that I missed on the exam and went back through my notes to find out why I missed that question. I haven’t really done this since I was in middle school, but I think this really helped. It was really nice to see why I got the question wrong and kind of straighten out why I thought that was right at the time. It felt like a lot of work, but I think it was worth it. I looked at the question and then went back to the textbook to read about the information that I missed. I found the right answer in the text and then I wrote some more in depth notes so that I could look back onto it later to study more. I think I will use this in the future to help with information, especially when I get into nursing school! I think I can apply this technique to practice questions too for future tests and exams in this class.

Music is a huge part of our lives. We look for common music tastes in the people that we choose to surround ourselves with. The article Soul Meets Body tells us that within the first five weeks of meeting someone, music is a huge topic of conversation. I know that my two best friends share a very similar music taste with me, but we do not have listen to exactly the same artists. We have a lot of artists that we can listen to in the car, but there are some artists that we listen to differently on our own time. My boyfriend and I have very different tastes in music. There are some artists that I have grown to like, but I do not like the majority of what he likes to listen to. This is why I don’t really agree that I surround myself with people that like the same kind of music as I do. I do agree that music does help strengthen a relationship more, but I do not think that it determines if a relationship will work or not.
- You’re the Inspiration- Chicago. This was my parents wedding song, I love listening to this song and thinking of them.
- Can I Have This Dance- High School Musical. This song makes me think of my boyfriend. I want this to play at my wedding when I dance with him.
- What I Wouldn’t Give- We The Kings. I think of all of the loved ones I have lost when I listen to this song
- Alejandro- Lady Gaga. Every time I hear this song I think of all of the times I used to dance with my sister to this song.
- You Say- Lauren Diagle. This song represents my faith. I listen to this song when I am feeling down or not enough.
- A Thousand Years- Christina Perri. I love listening to this song because it makes me think of my mom. She loves the Twilight movies so much and when this song comes on it makes me think of going to all of the midnight showings with her and my sister.

This week we are writing about self-efficacy. This means that a person feels like they have the ability to complete a task effectively. This means that we put all of our past experiences into the present to see if we are able to complete a task. This plays into our everyday life, but it also plays a role into how we perform academically. I feel as a student, that I am rather effective. I definitely think that I have changed from high school to college. I really think that the pandemic plays a great part into how I have changed. I used to be so driven in high school; it felt almost impossible to fall behind. I worked and played two sports, but I always got my homework done and I was always ready for tests. Now, in college, I find it hard to keep up. I think the pandemic has stripped some of my motivation away, but I am not completely lazy in school. I stay very organized and I sit down and see what needs to be done. But, it seems that I have lost the motivation to do things early so I am not doing them at the last minute. Even saying this, I know that I am very planner-orientated. Everyday, I sit down and see what level of priority my list of things to do holds. I completed the self-efficacy test and I scored a 33/40. I know I am fully capable of doing things, it is just finishing the motivation to get up and do them. I know that when I am faced with a problem I am able to sit down and figure out a solution and an effective way to solve them.
