SPAN 101

Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

Exploring Culture

Sometimes I lose perspective I forget that there is a world outside of what is going on around me. Learning more about foreign societies opens my mind to more perspectives of those around me.

Unit I Culture Exploration: Investigate Assignment

This assignment also had me google results by typing in Spanish. This was a new experience, and my beginning Spanish proved some use, but it goes to show how much more of the world can be known if you can learn Spanish.

Engaging in Communities

I believe it is important to engage in the community that is around us, and since Spanish speakers make up a decent portion of the community around us.

I worked at a local Mexican restaurant during the summer of 2021 and I learned a lot about Mexican culture, especially their foods.

Interpersonal Communication

This project was an interview with a spanish speaker. I asked about her acedemics and her future studies.

Any language Teacher will stress how important it is to talk when learning a language. Not only do I benefit from discussing with my peers in Spanish, but actually applying my knowledge with an actual Spanish speaker lets me see how much I actually know and get familiar with impromptu Spanish speaking.

Presentational Speaking

This project was a presentation on important places at my universidad. I was required to describe these places, their contents, purpose, and its significance in my life.

The included video is the presentation on my universisty. It challenged me to practice my grammar and to use proper grammar which is something I struggle with. However, after plenty of takes, I was able to present a cohesive tour of some of the places I frequently spend time at.

Presentational Writing

For my presentational writing, I will include my project number five “A quién admiro?” When it is completed.

Interpretive Listening

This assignment required I listen closely to a tour of a campus in Spanish in order to answer questions about the context.

While listening can be difficult for me, it is something I hope to continue improving on. Sometimes it is hard to distinguish words especially when I do not know all of them yet. However, I have been able to follow along for the majority of the time. Listening and understanding Spanish is important to actually understanding what you are hearing.

Interpretive Reading

The following is part of an excerpt that we read for class and answered questions in relation to.

Being able to read and understand context in Spanish is dire. While it is easy to know context in our native language, it is different know that it is not understandable. By learning how to read in Spanish, we can effectively communicate even more ideas with more people.
