I have always struggled with English. Between correct grammar usage and formulating an essay, my grade is consistently in danger. By high school usually, the rudimentary foundations of English are set; however, that wasn’t the case for me. Taking English in high school never gave me what I needed to make me successful. I coasted through high school with mediocre papers and faint knowledge of the subject at hand. That wasn’t going to meet the expectations for college. I’m happy I’m enrolled in University 150. In the past eleven weeks, I’ve strengthened my time management, improved my thought processes, and expanded my knowledge in English.

Being in a college level English course exposed me to the requirements of passing paper. One of those requirements were time. Procrastination has always been something I have struggled with.  To have my paper be turned in on time, I usually write it within three days of it being due. Within those three days I have a couple mandatory things I have to do before I can submit a paper. One of those things is going to a writing review session. Although it is not time consuming, I adjust my schedule in order to let certain teachers revise my papers. I believe that some of them truly search to help make their students stronger writers, while others believe in making the student figure out their mistakes. After that, I have to make edits, be revisions are very important. In high school, I could never revise my paper by myself, only with the help of a skilled writer. Now that I actually pay attention to my teacher’s comments and ask many questions when I’m confused, I feel like I’m beginning to become a stronger writer. I also have worked on my thought processes. Now when I get feedback on my papers, I make sure I understand them. When I started asking questions and began to understand the issues, I focused on my common mistakes and grew from them. I learned a major issue of mine were comma splices. No matter how hard I try, they were in every paper. As I practiced and conversed with my teacher, it became easier to find and fix comma splices while writing. Being in this English class I’ve grown much as a writer.

In conclusion, the class is fulfilling its purpose. I’ve not only become a stronger writer but I’ve completely rewire my brain, allowing me to more easily formulate a paper. My time management has improved much and is a versatile skill that can be applied to many concepts. Being able to accept that different classes require different processes to succeed helped me make the decision to find one that would best work. I like revisiting the basics of English, it helps me stay up to date with my grammar skills. All in all, being in this class has given me the means to be successful in my later classes.
