My name is Arielle Wolter, I am currently enrolled in Old Dominion University Biomedical Sciences PhD program with a concentration in Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine. My research in the Bruno and Sachs Stem Cell Lab focuses on mammary cell culture and engineering through the use of 3D bioprinting techniques integrated with hydrogel scaffolds. My research experience began when I was in my undergraduate degree junior year. I was accepted into the Nazeer Biochemistry lab and shortly after I was privileged to take on a research project of my own, “Effects of Transcription Blocking Drug on mRNA processing Factors, please see the Posters and Presentations portion of this portfolio for further reading and presentation. While in the lab, I learned many new skill sets including western blot analysis, cell culture techniques(yeast), and even was able to clone my first vector into a cell line we were working with. In addition, I was able to take on individualized self-guided study under my academic advisor. My research focused on two specific areas regenerative medicine and stem and tissue engineering. As these were passions of mine, I delved in as much as I could and created a poster out of this work along with much knowledge on the subject matter.
Upon graduating cum laude, I decided to continue my education in genomics at Johns Hopkins university. Here, I have studied under wonderful professors in the field of genetics and bioinformatics with subjects such as Bioinformatics: Tools for Genome Analysis, Genomic and Personalized Medicine, Human Molecular Genetics, and Epigenetics, Gene Organization and Expression. During this time, I also was able to hone my skills further in mammalian cell culture techniques as well as gene transformations, DNA extractions while working at ICHOR Therapeutics.
My passions include genetics, wet lab and computer analysis, stem cell and tissue engineering, and innovative research projects that make an impact. Going further I look forward to collaborating with great minds in these exciting innovative fields. Please find more information about me at the following links.
