I have chosen to pursue a career in nursing. Ever since I can remember I have wanted to make a difference in the world. Although this idea may seem unrealistic, I want to save as many lives as I possibly can to humble myself. I have always had the desire to help people, no matter what it may be. My goal in life is to travel to countries in need and give back. Nursing would give me the opportunity to make this goal of mine a reality. I want to be able to aid as many sick people as I can because I want to feel like I am making a difference in the lives of people around me. The whole point of my career choice is to gain cultural knowledge, and I believe the medical field is the best place to achieve that. I want to be the difference in my own country and in countries that don’t have anything close to the medical advancements here in America. I do not have very much experience in the medical field (besides shadowing a few nurses and doctors). Because of this, I plan to begin gaining experience by volunteering at Sentara or CHKD, and hopefully I will be able to attend the Global Brigades mission trip through ODU to Honduras in May. I want to get as much experience before hand so that when I get into the nursing program I am greatly prepared!
