- What are the connections between the disciplines addressing entrepreneurship at ODU?
- They all follow a specific business practice for their disciplines. The College of Sciences has a class called Professional Workforce Development. While I have not taken this class, I know it is a simulation of business challenges while developing a technology-based project. The connection is the simulation of how a business, for its discipline, operates daily.
- Is entrepreneurship an art or science?
- I do not believe it is either; instead, entrepreneurship is a three-way combination of art, science, and practice. In entrepreneurship, a knowledge base exists, but it is not the center for everything in the profession, only a means to an end. Entrepreneurship involves realizing the potential of ideas and making them happen with hard work and resources. Art requires creativity, vision, imagination, and inspiration. Science requires planning, data, facts, and logic. And practice requires hard work, motivation, and follow-through. Entrepreneurs take aspects from all three of these to help further realize their ideas.
- How is failure good?
- Failure is a natural part of life. Everyone in life has experienced failure, small and large. But failure is a good thing. Why? Because failure is what keeps us going, motivates us to try and see new things, and helps us learn. Some people give up when faced with massive failures and sacrifice their goals and motivation because something went wrong. However, most people will take these blunders and learn from them. Entrepreneurs will likely always experience business failures, but that only motivates them to keep going, adjust, and learn from the mistakes that produced the failure.
- What have I learned from failing?
- I am a quick learner and an adapter in life. When I mess up, that gives me a 2nd chance. It gives me more freedom to experiment and find solutions that will lead to success. Since the module topic had a lot of video game examples, I will use a personal experience of my own. While playing fighting games, like Dragon Ball Fighterz or Blazblue, I learn characters that pique my interest. While practicing, these fighting games will have a section in training mode that allows you to practice combos for the characters. Higher-difficulty combos take time, and some people give up learning the fighter because their combos are weird and too much of a hassle. But when I fail to do a combo, I keep going and adapt my hands and timing for the controller inputs until I find the right way to do it.
- What ethical issues might arise related to my work?
- Some ethical issues that could arise are the difference in mortality between my work and others’ ethics. As I mentioned in the week three journal, ethics, and morals are people’s beliefs and rules. If I have a stance on something, someone will most likely disagree with me and vice versa. For example, as a person pursuing a position in digital forensics, many people who do not know about computer hacking may view my job as controversial. Despite these claims, it is still my job, and I must follow through with it, which many people will view as unethical.
