My parallel major is Nuclear Medicine Technology. I chose this major because this is something that will always be needed in the world, so it will always be jobs available for a lifetime. An interesting fact about this major is that Nuclear Medicine Technologists are the special healthcare workers who administer radioactive drugs. One career that I can do in this major is a Nuclear Medicine Radiologist. A Nuclear Medicine Radiologist, also called nuclear radiologists, are physicians who use radioactive materials, called radiopharmaceuticals, to diagnose and treat disease. They also utilize radiopharmaceuticals to treat hyperthyroidism, thyroid cancer, solid tumors, hematologic malignancies, or painful bone metastases. My plan for pursuing this major would include finishing my general education classes and then applying for the Nuclear Medicine program. After being accepted, I would continue the last two years in my program and graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Medicine and from that point I can decide if I would like to get a concentration in anything pertaining to this major. From then I would be able to look for careers that pertain to the degree that I have just obtained. Additional Classes I would have to take would be 1 Oral Communications class, 1 Information Literacy & Research class, 1 Literature class, 1 Impact of Technology class, Philosophy and Ethics class, Introductory Organic and Biochemistry Lecture, Conceptual Physics Lecture, Conceptual Physics Laboratory, Nuclear Medicine Tech WI Course, Medical Terminology, Fundamental Concepts in Nuclear Medicine Tech, Instrumentation, Radiation Health, Nuclear Medicine Technology I, Clinical Skills for Nonnursing Majors, Clinical Nuclear Medicine Technology I, Clinical Nuclear Medicine Technology II, Nuclear Medicine Technology II, Radiopharmacy, Clinical Nuclear Medicine Technology III, Non-Imaging Nuclear Medicine Tech, and Admin & Mgmt in Nuclear Medicine Tech. I could go talk to the professor of the Nuclear Medicine Technology program and ask any questions I may have about the program. I also can find a place that allows internships for students who are interested in having a career in Nuclear Medicine Technology.
