The final paper was one of the hardest ones I’ve had to write so far in my English career. I took a topic I did not know much about and researched and did many assignments that lead up to completing my final. I learned a lot about water resources and how to properly manage waste and keep water clean. I also learned how important it is to dig deep in research and not just try to fill the paper with a bunch of nonsense. Most important sources were the articles I found in the libraries page on the ODU website. They were made by engineers so the information was credible and usable. I learned that I can write about almost anything if I put the time in and do the proper research. Research in the libraries was very useful but google searches such as Wikipedia and other incredible sources were not useful. If I was to do the project over I would’ve picked an easier topic because all the research was kind of the same and I felt like I was saying the same thing over and over again. I believe my topic was very interesting so keeping my audience’s attention wasn’t too big of a problem. I had many holes in my paper as I did not use quotes from my sources effectively throughout my paper. I also felt the way I expressed my words was not smooth at some times. I reviewed my paper multiple times to make sure my vocabulary and appeals were accurate. Finding the fallacies in my paper was kind of hard because I didn’t know where to start but I found many flaws and eliminated them. Maintaining an unbiased tone was kind of hard as well because there is only one way you should feel on keeping water clean but I had to view it from the other side as well. Learning how to strengthen my use of appeals and really revise my paper thoroughly was what I learned the most from my research paper. My next research paper I will use more quotations and more appeals to try and draw in a deeper audience and also add more research because you can never do enough research.
