Week 9

As we approach the end of the semester, I was able to soak in a boatload of new and noteworthy information. My top three things I’ve learned would be: self efficacy, EQ, and beauty standards in society. I think that the concept Emotional IQ (EQ) is able to thoroughly connect to the topic of module 8. I think it would be beneficial for Men and Women to use the self regulation and emotional intelligence test to find a balance between their differences. I am able to connect the concepts cognition and perception to the Positive Psychology class I’m currently enrolled in. Although these concepts are basic, I think they are the building blocks of becoming an informed human. Being able to acquire knowledge and understanding through senses is what allows people to continue to grow intellectually throughout their life. I plan to use what I’ve learned from Social Psychology extensively in my personal and profession life.

Week 8

I think this topic was relevant to our heterosexual society. Women and men are treated differently. This is due to societal beliefs and biological difference that create some difficulties in living. One thing men do that make women upset is that they prefer to date more openly. Women tend to prefer to have monogamous relationships while guys stray from this idea. In general, Men tend to grow up  with less parental involvement and tend to be less involved parents to their own kids. In addition to this, men are often considered to be more sexually free. With this in mind, it can make men upset when women seem uninterested to this. On the other hand, women can be seen as “easy” when these desires are met.

Week 7

I think that self-regulation and emotional intelligence have a positive correlation. This is because the better you are able to regulate your own emotions (through self-regulation), the higher your emotional intelligence is. In my opinion, emotional intelligence is the ability to acknowledge your emotions. This can be tested by viewing someone’s response to a difficult situation. I display EQ when things out of my control happen. Being Social chair for my sorority, sometimes people make mistakes or plans change. It is up to my EQ to use my emotions to enhance whatever situation I am in for the better! I could improve my EQ by being more patient with myself and others.

WEEK 3

After reading Body Meets Soul, I have a deeper understanding  of music. This article taught me about the correlation between a person and the type of much they chose. I know that a person’s interests and characteristics can play a large part in the type of music one would enjoy. For example: A person who is reserved, introvert, and quiet would most likely listen to different music than the head cheerleader at a local high school.

My Zista Huy: Save Your tears- the weekend

My boyfriend: Yacht Club- lil yachty

My mom: HYFR- Drake

Anne: stay- Justin Bieber

Gracie: Way too sexy- Drake

Alfred: Megan’s Piano: Megan thee stallion

Me: Potential Breakup song- Aly n Aj

I chose these songs because they are embodiments of each of the special people in my life.

For example, my mom has been quoting HYFR to me since the song was popular. This goes back as far as when I was in middle school. Also I chose My boyfriend’s song because it is a collab of our two favorite artists. One of them has passed away at this point. In light of this, we always sing to the song in the car and it brings tons of good vibes.

Week 2

Before taking the General Self-Efficacy test, I considered myself to be moderately efficient. I am a A/B average student and have been able to make Dean’s list a few times so far at ODU. I actively participate in my community and hold a position in my sorority. With this being said, I know I lack in the department of organization and following through with tasks.

After taking the General Self-Efficacy test, I was surprised to see I had scored slightly higher than I had anticipated. I scored a 30 or 3.0 which I think is due to the fact that I received Dean’s List Fall 2021. I believe this has upped my confidence in my ability to take courses and do well. But it has also aided some of my negative characteristics, like procrastination. Being able to understand written directions more easily is top of my list for things that would increase my confidence levels.

YES WE CAN

The most important thing you can have is confidence in your abilities, ordinary people can do extraordinary things.
