I chose this major because I aspire to become a physical therapist, therefore it seemed like the best fit for my career choice and I thought it seemed interesting. I also like that it’s not as common to hear of somebody with an exercise science major compared to say, a nursing or psychology major. Therefore, it makes me feel as though I am different and doing something unique. As for experience, I did a technical program for physical therapy my last two years of high school. Within this course, we got a preview into the career and learned how to take a variety of vitals, the different gait patterns, common transfers, different tests for specific injuries, modalities, and many more valuable skills related to the field. I also became a physical therapy aide and got my first-aid\/CPR certification. In addition to this program, I job shadowed at a local outpatient clinic in my hometown for a few months. I am grateful for the experience and being able to use it as a learning opportunity, however I did not love it as I aspire to work in a hospital setting rather than outpatient as it is a little faster in pace and there is essentially more action and I feel this would be a better fit for me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
I am majoring in exercise science for my bachelor’s degree at Old Dominion University.
