Course Reflection

In this class, I have learned how to use multiple different materials to create lesson plans and activities that are beneficial to English Language Learners (ELL). Some of these materials include but are not limited to: ESL textbooks, websites specifically equipped with lesson plans for ELL’s, and the textbook assigned for this class. All of these have benefited me greatly because they have assisted me in reaching my original goals for this class. The goals I set for the class were to learn to teach English on a higher level and to meet people that under other circumstances I would not have been able to meet. Both of these goals were not only met but exceeded. I feel as though I am able to assist people in learning English on a higher level and I have met several people from other countries and without this class I would have not made the effort in doing so. The most helpful activity was the Adaptation activity because it required me to think outside the box and allowed me to get feedback on how I did from other classmates. My classmates allowed me to go back and reflect on my work. I was able to fix my mistakes and gain a new understanding of the activity. This activity will help me teach ESL because I am now able to take a super simple lesson plan and adapt it to the level of the students I am teaching. This is essential because in many cases teachers have to adapt to different things. Being able to adapt when your students don’t understand is vital in making sure they understand what is being taught.
