Assignment Takeaway 1: Stages of Intercultural Sensitivity
In the first assignment I learned about how there are different stages in being Inter-culturally sensitive. I had no idea that there was stages in something that I knew I possessed. I have been lucky enough to have been exposed to many cultures, whether it be through people, food, or shows.
This class relates to that of Psychology of Adolescence. When I was in this class I remembered my professor talking about how culture plays a big roll in Adolescence and can affect how people interact with others!
Having cultural sensitivity is important if we want to learn about people, their experiences, and what makes them a who they are as a person. Someone who is not culturally sensitive might offend someone from a different culture and may never understand why behaves or thinks the way they do.

Back home (Alexandria, Va) it is very Diverse. I have friends from various asian countries and I’ve learnt different customs from: The Philippines, Thailand, and Korea. Coming to ODU i realized that it is not as diverse as I once believed. I joined LSA at ODU and they had a culture night where they invited ODU students to come and learn about Hispanic culture! I thought this was great and Invited my friend Takaiya, she absolutely loved it!. I have also tried to learn from different cultures. I made the Vietnamese dish in the picture above: Beef Pho, and Gỏi cuốn (summer rolls). I made my own beef broth and learnt the pride and hard work that goes into making a homemade broth.
