Blog 5: Who Am I?

I chose this image because I am still figuring out who I am; and what I struggle to accept about myself.

Which statements do you think are associated with the dimension of ‘independent construal of self”?

Which statements do you think are associated with the dimension of ‘interdependent construal of self”?

5, 6, 7, 10.

Based on your answers to the aforementioned questions, do you think you are more independent or more interdependent?

This was tough, Initially it was split evenly between Interdependence and Independence. I began to reevaluate my statements and I think I am more independent than I am Interdependent. I don’t believe that my self esteem depends on others.

Describe the English proverbs (short expressions of popular wisdom) which reflect either “independent” or “interdependent” construal of self. For example:

            Independent self – “Be unique”

Interdependent self – “Occupy and play one’s assigned role”

Which was easier for you to think of: the proverbs that reflect “independent self” or “interdependent self”? Can you think of any reasons for your tendency?

I think the easier one for me to reflect upon was the Independent self one “Be Unique”, I don’t necessarily go out of my way to be unique but I do choose to not conform, I feel opposed to the one that is Interdependent because I feel like I don’t even conform to my own cultural norms, and I tend to question the “assigned role” that is given to me.
