Review the articles linked with each individual motive. Rank the motives from 1 to 7 as the
motives that you think make the most sense (being 1) to the least sense (being 7). Explain
why you rank each motive the way you rank it.
I would say that committing cyber crime for money makes the most sense because some
people need money to live. Data gathered through first-hand interviews with 100 convicted or
currently engaged cybercriminals, combined with Dark Web investigations, reveals that 15%
spend most of their money on immediate needs like buying diapers and paying bills. This data
shows that there is a valid reason that people commit the crime for money, that is why I think it
makes the most sense. The second one that makes sense is for political reasons. Their motive to
commit the crime is to show a point, or problem that is going on.If I had a major problem that I
have and the government wasn’t listening I could commit a cybercrime to gain political status.
The third motive that I think makes the most sense would be revenge, because all you are doing
when you commit the crime is just getting back at someone for what they did. The fourth motive
that makes sense would be for recognition. The group of hackers could be trying to highlight an
ongoing problem that has not been addressed yet so they would need to commit a type of cyber
crime to have people recognize it. The fifth one that makes sense would be “multiple reasons”.
People can be going through a whole bunch of problems in their life and they have been tempted
to commit cybercrime. The sixth one that makes sense would be entertainment. Seeing people
get rowdy over a cybercrime would be exciting, but its not valid because of the consequences.
The last one that makes no sense would be for boredom. There is too much going on in the world
for you not to occupy yourself.
