Prompt:After watching the video, write a journal entry about how you think the
media influences our understanding about cybersecurity. Has this understanding
changed over time? What is different in the older pieces of media vs more current
media?
Media is one of the biggest influences in our day to day life. Media can change a
way someone thinks and the way they see the world around them. In the first video at
the end, the lady says that the reason she chose to get into cybersecurity was because
of the movie she watched. Media influences the way we see cybersecurity because in
the movies they showed the hackers using this futuristic technology, but in real life it
isn\u2019t like that at all. While watching the 4 short youtube videos it seems that a lot of the
movies use 3d technology to represent the hacking, but they were all debunked by the
guest speakers and they said that the 3d models aren\u2019t realistic at all. In older films it
seems to be more realistic, considering cybercrime was relatively new and not many
ideas had been out about cybersecurity. In newer films it seems that companies like to
make hacking futuristic and fake, because they add 3d models and things that can\u2019t
even be possible with the technology we have now. This shows how the understanding
of cybercrime and cybersecurity has changed over the years. By the media highlighting
some of these cybercrimes, it can help people understand how these happen and
maybe they can realize how to deter themselves from these types of situations. It is
important while watching a cybercrime video to understand that not everything is as
easy as filmmakers make it seem, and that cybersecurity specialist spend days on
trying to hack or defend some type of software\/technology
