Parallel Major

For my parallel major, I choose education because I have a huge passion for working with kids, and education is able to give me that opportunity. Although I also have a passion for the medical field, I think teaching has just as big as an impact on a child as a nurse would. Instead of helping them and making them feel better, I would be teaching them new things as they take on the world. An interesting fact about the education major is that it is the fifth most popular major (nursing comes in third). If I were to start a career path in education I would like to teach either kindergarten or first grade. To become a first-grade teacher, I would first have to get a bachelor’s degree, then my master’s in elementary or early childhood education, then I would have to become a student teacher and lastly, I would obtain my state teaching license. To start planning for my education major I would have to take other classes then what I am currently enrolled in. I would still need to take a leadership class, law and ethics, communication, accountability, finance and budgeting, learning theories, and I would have to do internships as well. To gain professional experiences for this study, I would try to start working with some younger kids starting at a daycare to start taking care of children. I already babysit a lot so I have good ways of keeping the kids calm and having good connections. I would then do internships and start doing student teaching to also gain experience.
