In this sample breach letter, one way there the classical economic theory is evident is because the customer’s credit card and payment information, such as first and last name, their address, and phone number, was given to the website. The hacker found this information and was buying things with their information. Since customers help with supply and demand for that company, the company should have prioritized keeping their information secured. Rational choice, which is also another economic is seen in this because the company did what was in its best interest for them which was not spending money and not getting cybersecurity. So instead, they put others in harm. This can also be seen as a social science theory as well.
Throughout this letter, I noticed some social science theories as well in this letter and one of them was the structural-functional theory. That is when companies work together or institutions to make sure everything is stable. In the letter, it mentions how their site is operated for them by another company. That was the company that got attacked which led to the main company getting attacked and people’s information being stolen. They did not have a good structure together; it was not stable. Lastly, the other social science theory I saw was the conflict perspective theory. The customers and the company now have conflicts with one another and they will affect the company for a while as their sales will go down and they have lost their customer’s trust.
