I think the number one motive for crimes is revenge. The article about revenge talks about how people are releasing porn for revenge, which then ruins that person’s reputation, especially if they don’t have other people to protect their image. The second motive for crimes is money. There are a lot of people who are in desperate need of money, and they look at cybercrimes as a way to help that. In the article, it states that 15% spend the money on immediate needs, 30% invest, 20% spend on bad habits, 20% reinvest, and 15% spend on the finer things. The third-ranked motive would be entertainment. The article talks about how a man behind LinkedIn grabbed 700 million profiles for fun. There are a lot of people out there who are crazy and enjoy just hacking into people’s profiles as it gives them something to do. The fourth motive for cybercrime is political. These days I feel like the government is trying to have more and more control over what goes on online, which is making people angry and wanting to hack into things. People were able to hack into a collection of the January 6th riot and publicly out what went on. The fifth motive is recognition. The article about recognition talks about how Bradley Niblock launched an attack against a candidate website way before the general election. The website got 250,000 connection requests instead of the 100 that it usually gets a day. The sixth motive is boredom. I feel like I am constantly hearing people say that they are bored because they are tired of scrolling through the same social media apps, tired of T.V., etc. Children experience boredom the majority of the time, and in this day in age, almost every child has an electronic device. The article says how there has been an increase in the number of cases of online child grooming. It also talks about how children will take photos and post them and even cyberbully. If children at the age of ten are doing this then adults at the age of 40 are definitely doing this. The last motive is multiple reasons such as socioeconomic and psychological factors. There are people who find their passion in cybercrime because of socioeconomic and psychological factors so that is the only thing that they try to strive in.
