This video clarified how autoimmune mechanisms in Multiple Sclerosis lead to demyelination in the CNS. It helped me visualize how immune cells disrupt neuronal signaling, reinforcing key concepts in cell biology related to immune response and neurodegeneration.

MS is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by demyelination and axonal injury in the CNS due to an immune-mediated attack. It classically presents with relapsing-remitting episodes of neurological deficits, including optic neuritis (painful monocular vision loss), internuclear ophthalmoplegia, Lhermitte’s sign (electric shock-like sensation with neck flexion), and sensory or motor deficits. Symptoms worsen with heat (Uhthoff’s phenomenon). MS is diagnosed with MRI (periventricular plaques, Dawson’s fingers) and CSF analysis (oligoclonal bands of IgG). Treatment includes disease-modifying therapies (e.g., beta-interferons, natalizumab) and corticosteroids for acute exacerbations.
