I completed a lesson plan following the framework of a class that we envisioned for the semester. My class is designed for very young language learners that are at the beginning level for English. An appropriate age group would include Preschool to early Elementary age students. This lesson plan is designed around animals and their descriptions, sounds, and habitats. In the lesson, students will work on describing animals and their habitats as well as being able to identity the names and sounds of animals upon being shown an image. I chose these activities due to their increased nature of communication between students. In each activity, students are required to speak and listen to each other or the teacher. In this maximization of speaking and listening skills, students are able to absorb the target language at a rapid pace. As these students are still very young, preschool to early elementary age, intensive reading and writing tasks are not yet appropriate. While there is the potential for adding activities such as these in, this lesson was designed to be heavy in the language goals of speaking and listening. I focused on three learning objectives. Each activity is explicitly matched up to one objective. Please click the document below to view the lesson plan in its entirety.
